Master Plan Study for defining the Potential Market of the Port of Volos. Improvement of its productivity level and of its commercial relations

The objectives of the study are the following:
• Analysis of the operational characteristics of the Port of Volos.
• Definition of the geographical area which the Port covers (users and products).
• Examination of the level of Port ”attractiveness”.
• Formation of policy/ies for expanding the Port’s market.
• Formation of investment policy on infrastructure improvements.
• Formation of proposals for improving the legal framework dealing with Port’s operation.
The surveys which were carried out in the framework of the study consist of a questionnaire survey among the Port users, a SWOT analysis and a survey on the characteristics of competitive in Greece and abroad Ports. Part of the user’s survey was made in coordination with the Transport Study Center for the Eastern Mediterranean (TRANSCEM).
Among the basic findings of the Project was the necessity for improvements in infrastructure and also for changes in the operational framework of the Port.
Emphasis was also given to formulate proposals for:
• Construction of a freight center in Greater Volos Area.
• Special agreements with important customers.
• Provision of high level services for specific goods.
