The study was assigned in 1995 by ATTIKO METRO S.A, the company which is responsible for the construction, operation and supervision of the Athens metro. The study consisted of the following surveys:
• Traffic volumes measurements.
• Examination of parking characteristics.
• Travel times measurements.
• Pedestrian flows measurements.
• Road-side interviews.
• Analysis of collected data using G.I.S technology.
The findings of the study can be divided in the two following parts:
• Identification of the traffic characteristics (basic indicators).
• Formation of short-term proposals regarding traffic management, parking policies, accident reduction and traffic conditions for the pedestrians.
