The master plan of Santorini Airport sets up an overall expansion and development plan that aims to provide the airport with the appropriate facilities and infrastructure in order to accommodate the future trends in passenger and cargo traffic until year 2020.
In particular, the master plan of Santorini airport contributes to:
• The improvement of the existing facilities and services provided at the airport
• The better utilization of the surrounding areas of the airport
• The assessment of the environmental impacts of the airport operations and the proposed expansion plans.
In order to achieve the above goals, a number of specific workpackages was established and successfully executed. Specifically, the tasks within these workpackages covered the following areas of study:
• Analysis of the existing situation at the airport (facilities, services in airside and landside, meteorological conditions, etc)
• Estimation of the traffic trends and forecasting of the future passenger and cargo traffic, until year 2020
• Determination of the development requirements, in airside and landside infrastructure
• Development of strategic scenarios for the future development of the airport
• Assessment of environmental impacts
• Estimation of extrapolation requirements
• Cost- Benefit analysis of the proposed plans
• Development of financial, organizational and time plan of the expansion plans.
