EDI / AEI Application at the Hellenic Railways

INTERPORT_OSE

Customer: Hellenic Railways

Duration: September 1996 – September 1997

A prime objective of the Hellenic Railways is the upgrading and expansion of the rail network with the neighboring countries. The continuously improving relationships between Greece and FYROM has led to increased cargo flow via Thessaloniki and the border gate of Idomeni.
In this context, a project aiming at the integration of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Automatic Equipment Identification (AEI) systems has been undertaken in Northern Greece and particularly between the railway station at the port of Thessaloniki and that at the Idomeni borders. The system involves the pre-announcement and confirmation of the train departure and arrival respectively and the automatic access control at the station in Thessaloniki. The end solution enables the electronic monitoring of the rail-cars as well as the related data processing and interchange.
