Customer: Port Authority of Piraeus, DELTA SA

Duration: January 1996 – December 1998

The integrated management system implemented at the container terminal of Piraeus combines existing and new technologies in the field of Electronic Identification and Communication (i.e. transponders/tags and E.D.I.) in an integrated system for the automatic control of container movements inside the terminal.
Similar technologies were adopted for the implementation of an electronic booking system for vehicles in the Short Sea Shipping (SSS) business and the automatic access control at both the port terminal and ferry.
The main functionalities of the two systems include:
• Pre-announcement of cargo arrival (land / sea side) by the shipping agent as well as electronic booking request for a space in the ferry, using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).
• Electronic booking confirmation from the port authority, using EDI Automatic entry / exit control to / from the terminal, loading/ unloading control to/ from the ship, vehicle access control at the ferry gate using the technology of transponders (tags).
• Automatic monitoring and control of containers at the stowage area, using the technology of transponders (tags) and dynamic visualization of these operations in a Geographical Information System (GIS).
• Electronic communication of the container status to the interested parties and electronic invoicing of the transport services, using E.D.I.
