Description
Project scope is to improve the current transportation conditions for Dangerous Goods (DG) at the Cypriot road network via (a) enhancement of DG management procedures, (b) enhancement of DG traffic management and incident management and, (c) enhancement of DG transport management based on strategic Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) study. The study is conducted at the framework of PRODROMOS eligible Action Greece – Cyprus 2007 – 2013. The study includes the following activities:
– Formation of Working Group in Cyprus for the DG management at the Cypriot road network with participation of all stakeholders.
– Enhancement of existing procedures for DG transport management at the Cypriot road network via interviews with DG stakeholders.
– Development of traffic management procedures for DG transport and for incidents via specialized transportation software tools.
– Study of existing domestic legislation and the formation of proposals for modifications in the legislation framework for the transportation conditions of DG.
– Introduction of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) as a tool for the effective DG transport management and monitoring.
– Training of DG stakeholders for transportation management at the Cypriot road network.
– Administrative support to the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Works (Lead Partner) for the implementation of PRODROMOS Action.
Role of TREDIT
– Recording of existing procedures for the DG management via personal interviews
– Recording of various existing data and development of Database
– Quantitative and qualitative DG route risk assessment at the road network
– Updating of national transportation model of Cyprus for the evaluation of traffic management actions regarding DG
– Formation of traffic management proposals for DG and remaining traffic at the road network of Cyprus.
– Formation of proposals for the enhancement of existing DG transport management procedures and for large-scale road incidents.
– Development of Strategic ITS study for DG management and Transportation Safety/ Security
– Training of stakeholders personnel.
-Administrative Ministry support for PRODROMOS Action.
