The Programme «Cross-border Transport CONNECTIONS and Communications – the basis for improving quality of life in border areas / CONNECTIONS» has as a natural objective the analysis of transportation system, the development of strategies for viable transport infrastructure, the telematics use, the procurement of special equipment, the creation of dissemination material via kiosks, the installation of software which will provide information for connections, travel services, sight-seeing, business units e.t.c.

The project scope is to promote a sustainable financial development in a cross-border region via the development of a viable transport network, emphasizing on the road and rail network. The study area includes the following transportation networks:
– Smolyan – Rudozem – Xanthi – Kavala
– Smolyan – Zlatograd – Xanthi – Kavala
– Smolyan – Arda – Xanthi – Kavala

The project activities are the following:
– Recording of the existing road infrastructure and intersections conditions.
– Analysis of the existing road infrastructure and intersections conditions.
– Analysis of the existing transportation demand within the study area.
– Development of forecasts for travel demand for all transportation modes (both directions of travel) within the study area.
– Formation of proposals for the improvement of transport connections at the cross-border areas of the study area.
– Recording of project meetings minutes.
