The study was carried out in a single phase, where the selected contestants elaborated a preliminary design for the rehabilitation of the South-east Gate of Thessaloniki, examining all the urban, architectural, transportational and environmental aspects of the subject, accompanied with the relevant drawings and technical reports.
Subject of the study was the elaboration of a prelimirary study, dealing with the incorporation of part of the area to the city plan, and the rehabilitation of the area that is already within the city plan.
The aim of the study was the nomination of a master plan for the whole of the study area, that would combine the element of the exemplary urban design with the prelimirary architectural design of a big-scale project. Moreover, aim of the study was the composition of a general framework of area adjustments, that would target the conjugation of private benefits and public funds in order for financially viable uses to renovate the area, exploit the landmark of Allatini, and develop the public space as a connective element of the open space with the build-up area and the nomination of the physical environment, having as a prerequisite the operational connectivity of the study area with the wider area, and the connectivity of the internal and peripheral road network.

Study of the local and wider scale traffic measures, including possible alternative scenarios, for the application of the suitable rehabilitation aiming at: – The connectivity of the area with the local and wider area – The arrangement and connectivity of the scheduled pubic transport services – The proposal of constructing a car parking area with sufficient and viable capabilities, as a project that will support the public transport services and will not deteriorate the current level of service of the city – The planning of transportation axis – The management and hierarchy of traffic and parking in the area
