The study was completed in two phases that included the following:
• The analysis of the existing situation and the identification of the existing problems in the study area (Phase A), and
• The proposal formulation to the required detail extent, for the necessary traffic arrangements (Phase B).
Taking into consideration the particularities of the study area that concern the terrain of the settlement and its skirts, the particular town planning combined with the problematic road network lining and the difficulty in the orientation of a visitor, the development of commercial and other activities along the basic routes of the study area and its touristic character, the traffic study proposals included:
• The organization and hierarchy of the road network.
• The accessibility improvement for the general and specific land uses.
• Passengers’ traffic facilitation measures.
• Pedestrians and drivers road safety level improvement measures.
•Environmental conditions improvement (reduction of emissions due to the regularization of the vehicles’ flow, reduction of the energy consumption, noise pollution etc.).
• The planning and organization of off road parking areas for private cars, trucks and rural vehicles.
