Customer: EE DGXIII (DRIVE Programme)
Duration: January 1992 – January 1994
The main goal of this project was to set up and evaluate in a real working environment telematics applications to the road freight operations (RFO) activities that were found to be of priority in the previous DRIVE work and particularly in the EUROFRET project.
The activities which have been tested are: mobile data communication between driver/vehicle and homebase, mobile data communication activities (MDC), and EDI between shipper and operator in combination with MDC. By testing these operations in actual working conditions along predetermined routes and combinations of modes and types of products, the project was able to formulate and recommend functional standards for the development of commercial systems that truly satisfy European user needs.
It has also studied in detail and propose easy and cost effective solutions for the application of these new ATT systems by Small and Medium Size transport enterprises (SMES). Eleven different pilot applications are planned to be tested of which six (6) on MDC and five (5) on EDI with emphasis on utilisation of the MDC data.
Role of TREDIT:
– Road Freight Operations
– Combined transport
– Mobile data Communications in Road Freight
– EDI applications in Road Freight
– Evaluation – impact assessment
