Development of a center for assessing and teaching PSN in selecting and using wheelchairs and for adapting them according to their profession ES – AYTONOMY

This project attempts to confront in an integrated way the problems of selecting, learning, and using wheelchairs as PSN working means, without this selection to be opposed to the rest of its functionalities (e.g. as transportation means, household activities. etc.). The reason is that a PSN wheelchair user that has the ability to feel comfortable and transport without problems in his/her working environment, having safe and wide access to his/her working environment is obvious that he/she has multiple possibilities of gradual integration maintaining his/her work for a long period of time.
Therefore the basic objective of the program is the suggestion of the suitable type of wheelchair for professional and general rehabilitation of the PSN and providing of guidance for its acquisition and training in its use.
This objective is being implemented through the search of relevant PSN problems who are currently employed. In this way the connection of the wheelchair selection not only to the user (propulsion force-torque acting capability, stamina, functioning perception, etc.) but also to his/her employment type (vibrations, obstacles, placement-position of working, etc.) will be attempted for the first time, under the form of a database.

Role of TREDIT:
– Development of a database matching wheelchair characteristics with workplace requirements
– Development of a checklist for evaluation of wheelchairs in relevance to the working environment
– Publication of a manual for the selection of wheelchair per PSN group and job-profession type but also according to accessibility requirements of workspace- work means
