The Programme “A Way To-Gather: Construction of the road Zlatograd (Border-crossing Point Zlatograd) – Thermes – Xanthi / ZLATEX” has as an objective the development of a common strategy for traffic management and the protection of illegal transportation of goods and people. The Programme scope is the development of road infrastructure as a mean for the social and financial development of the cross-border area.
The project scope is the mobility improvement for passengers and freight via the adoption of a new road map contributing also on the protection of illegal activities. The study area is defined by the road axis Zlatograd – Thermes – Xanthi.
The project activities are the following:
– The recording and analysis of the existing road network within the study area.
– The recording and analysis of the existing transport demand (traffic flows, freight traffic).
– The conducting of socio-economic forecasts within the study area.
– The conducting of traffic demand forecasts for passengers and freight at the road network of the study area.
– The investigation and the evaluation for the development of a cross-border public transportation system at the cross-border region.
– Analysis of the opportunities for the improvement of the transportation system and evaluation of the traffic levels for freight, services and passengers.
– The organization and execution of public actions which will promote the discussion, the interaction of various stakeholders and the agreement for co-operation between various stakeholders.
Role of TREDIT:
– Recording and analysis of the existing road infrastructure.
– Recording and analysis of the existing transport demand (passengers and freight traffic)
– Development of forecasts for the quantification of future demand (passengers and freight traffic).
– Evaluation of a future public transportation system within the study area.
– SWOT analysis.
– Organization of the public consultation.
