The scope of the study was to help the Greek Railway Organization (OSE) and the Ministry of Transport for justifying priority projects to High Level Group (HLG) to EC regarding the development of efficient intermodal transport gate of EU at South East Europe using Greek railway network.
The work was focused on:
– Assessing intermodal freight transport schemes in South East Europe with the objective of optimizing use of TEN for increasing accessibility of central European Union markets from / to East countries.
– Identifying role of Greek Railway network for efficiently serving freight intermodal logistic chains
– Reviewing existing studies relevant to rail and intermodal transport over Greece (for transit flows)
– Estimating on the basis of existing data economic viability of new railway infrastru-cture needed for securing implementation of intermodal scenarios
– Justifying project national importance and European added value in accordance to the criteria applied by EC for selection of priority projects for the extension of the TEN at EU level.

– Design of freight intermodal transport schemes
– Assessment of economic viability of transport infrastructure
