Customer: Regional Administration of the East Macedonia and Thrace

In the framework of the present study assigned to the company by the Regional Administration of East Macedonia and Thrace, a traffic and technoeconomical consideration of the new road took place. This new road-axle constitutes a lateral road connection of the EGNATIA Road to the road network of Bulgaria and will service international road transport through Greece, being already characterized as the end part of the Transeuropean Road Axle XI.
Furthermore this axle, with the improved road transport conditions which it will cause, will become a major development for the area of Thrace in northern Greece, a fact of great local but also national importance. The broader socioeconomic environment was examined in the study, considering data of the level of economy and employment of the population of the area. The existing flows of traffic and transport were determined and the project was inserted to the broader transportation infrastructure of the Evros Prefecture. During the analysis phase of the study, the future traffic volumes on the axle were determined using the EMME/2 model and also other traffic forecast models which were used in the framework of the strategic plan study for the development of transportation infrastructure in Greece.
An extended calculation of the cost of accidents and of the economic analysis of the investment for the construction of the new road axle has been also done. Based on the Net Present Value and the Internal Rate of Return indices of the investment, the economic evaluation of the alternative route which were formulated to the traffic analysis phase was conducted.
