Duration: March 1994 -August 1994
The feasibility and viability of a new air carrier was investigated, with main focus the creation of new air links among the Greek isles, operated by the Chambers of Greece, in order to provide sustainable mobility through out the year. The study focused on the analysis of the socioeconomic characteristics of the Greek isles, in terms of population and GDP indices by sector of economy. Also, on the analysis of travel demand generated on these islands. Investigation and data collection on the existing infrastructure and the operational characteristics of the air and maritime transportation was also conducted.
For the estimation of the travel demand for specific routes, the selection of the most prominent isles was made, followed by the detailed analysis of the interrelations among traffic, social, and economic parameters, which led to the development of air travel demand forecasting models. Based on the generated air traffic, the passenger and freight traffic attracted by the new air carrier was estimated, for different pricing policies, types and frequencies of aircrafts, and levels of service. Furthermore, the infrastructure requirements for the proper operation of the carrier were identified, and through a socioeconomic and financial analysis the viability of the investment was determined.
