Development of Software package for Physical Distribution Planning and Management – DIANOMES

Project assigned and financed by the Commission of the European Communities, Directorate General for Transport (DG VII). The aim was to forecast and analyse Greek transport infrastructure needs following Greece’s accession to the EEC. The project involved bringing together the existing work on traffic and transport in Greece and the rest of the Community, preparing scenarios of economic development, and based on them, development and application of forecasting models for freight and passenger transport demand. Then assignment to networks and evaluation of infrastructure needs, in terms of the (forecasted) Volumes to capacity ratios. Both road and rail infrastructure was considered.This study which lasted 2 years covered the Greek mainland (rail and road transport) and all international land links between Greece and European countries. It was subsequently extended to cover trips between Europe and M.East, N.African countries and the resulting needs for transport in transit.
