Customer: EU, DG XIII

Duration: January 1996 – March 1999

The project aims at:
The project aims to an optimum integration of vessel traffic management information including environmental and safety information, ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship communication by exploiting the latest available technology. The functional requirements will not only be derived from current system deficiencies but additionally from investigating future benefits. In close co-operation with the users and by elucidating the unapplied technology with them (user education) better solutions will be researched and developed.
The line in sight and satellite communication carriers will provide the means by which to exchange textual and graphical information automatically (including transponders) and manually. The operators’ workload aboard and ashore may be reduced by both automated data interchange and intelligent software support, i.e. mainly event-related display.
The project technical pre-standards which must be suitable to satisfy differing regional and operational requirements throughout Europe will come from distributed test-sites specially selected to verify the development results. technique and decision support.
