Within the general context of Dangerous Goods transportation in Europe, MADAMA project aims both to understand and harmonize the actions needed to control and protect the Dangerous Goods transport chain as well as to improve the Security and Risk control and management system in the Mediterranean Area. The project will use ICT solutions with the aim of improving the mobility sustainability and the quality of the environment.
The Dangerous Goods transportation represents a very critical issue at European level: the continuously increasing volumes of dangerous goods traffic in the freight logistic network requires that industries and governments better understand and manage such transport process, especially from a safety and risk management point of view.
The general MADAMA philosophy is based on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) to create and integrate real intermodal tools and services, useful along all the transport steps.
Practically, at an experimental level, MADAMA will develop and use advanced ICT tools and solutions for the planning and monitoring of transnational multimodal chains. Those solutions, based on suitable Web platforms, will allow an efficient risk management system related to the dangerous goods transport, both inland and maritime.
