Consulting services for carrying out additional studies for the urban sea transport system

The study aims at the estimation of the passengers flow that the proposed operation of the urban sea transport system in Thessaloniki will undertake. The areas that will connected with the urban sea transport network system through specific stops include the Municipalities of Thessaloniki and Kalamaria, as well as the eastern part of the greater Thessaloniki area such as Perea, N. Epivates, Ag. Triada and N. Michaniona.
Operating this mean of transport is expected to reduce travel times between these areas relatively to the travel times achieved today for the same trips with buses or private cars. This fact is supported by the use of new technology ships, with great capacity, high speeds and automatic mooring systems, which reduce travel times significantly especially for long distance trips.
More specifically, in the context of the study a state preference questionnaire survey was conducted on public means users, alternative scenarios for the areas’ connectivity were configured and simulated in the EMME/2 software which was also used for the General Transportation Study of Thessaloniki. It is noted that the model was properly adjusted – updated, taking into account the changes that have come upon the operation of the Public Means (terminal bus stops operation, new bus lines, passengers flow etc) as well as the intense increase in the eastern Municipalities population.
The results of the study are the average daily passengers flow for the under study scenarios and the calculation of the necessary capacity of the ships that will serve the new means of transport
