The project is undertaken by the consortium “Delcan International Limited and TREDIT SA”. The scope of the project is to study, to design and to support the tendering procedure of the INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS in Cyprus in order to provide all the required means for the integrated management of the Cypriot Transportation systems at urban and inter-urban level. The design of INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS focuses on systems related with the road network management, the road safety improvement, the parking management, the public transport management and the travelers’ information. The project consists of the following activities:
– Training of the Steering Committee of the project, the Support Team and all Technical Teams.
– Assessment of the existing conditions in Cyprus related with (a) the legal and policy framework, (b) the needs and the main priorities for the introduction of INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS in Cyprus, © the existing data, the existing telematic systems and the current procedures.
– Review of the Intelligent Transportation and Geographical Information Systems which have been successfully introduced in other countries.
– Development of an ITS inventory based on the existing conditions and the relevant stakeholders’ needs.
– Design of the Intelligent Transportation Systems and the introduction of a Geographical Information System.
– Development of a socio-economic study and multi-criteria analysis for the selected Intelligent Transportation Systems.
– Development of specifications for the selected Intelligent Transportation Systems.
– Support during the preparation of the Tendering Documents.
– Development of a Traffic Management Control Centre.
– Development of a Geographical Information System.
The Cypriot government long-term target is to enhance the quality of the road network in Cyprus. The project’s goal is to contribute towards the achievement of this target. The project’s specific objective is the introduction of the INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS and the development of a Geographical Information System. The achievement of the specific objective is expected to contribute towards the improvement of the road capacity and the road safety in the urban and inter-urban network in Cyprus. Moreover, the relevant road transport authorities will have the capability to manage effectively the transportation network in real time and to provide seamless and reliable real-time information to users and other relevant authorities such as police, fire brigades and medical centres.
