The project is aiming to the improve the urban traffic management, in order to increase the road safety, in urban areas.
In order to meet this objective, DUMAS project will:
• establish a methodology that can applied generally to towns with different transport systems in different counties, to demonstrate how safety can be improved as a part of a package meeting wider urban objectives
• produce a framework and guidelines for the design and assessment of urban safety management schemes based on the methodology
• demonstrate the validity of the framework and to apply elements of the methodology in a sample of towns.
In Greece, in the framework of the DUMAS project, two towns are taking into consideration, namely Larissa and Katerini. In both towns were created a record of traffic accidents, covering a long period of time and then traffic management measures were taken, in order to compare the road safety before and after the measures taken. This way make it possible to assess the traffic manegement measures by means of safety.
Role of TREDIT:
– responsible for developing the guidelines for the assessment (in both microscale and macroscale means), of the traffic management (including both geometric and traffic characteristics of the road network) and safety levels.
